About the project

The project was carried out for Ineo Eiendom in connection with the planning of a new senior co-housing development. I worked closely with another UX designer, collaborating across the entire process from research to prototype.

The goal was to explore how a digital solution could support daily life in the community, both practically and socially. A key ambition of the co-living concept was to reduce loneliness through shared spaces and a stronger sense of community. The work took place in an early phase, before construction had begun and without any existing residents.

Insights highlighted the importance of safety, community and joy in everyday life. These became guiding principles for the concept we developed, with a focus on simplicity and a solution that supports communication between residents.

What I did

  • Conducted in-depth interviews with potential buyers of senior housing together with another designer, and used the insights as a foundation for concept development.
  • CDeveloped personas and followed one of them through a complete user journey – before, during and after moving into the community.
  • Designed early concepts from insights to sketches and prototype, with a focus on simple and intuitive use for an older target group.
  • Presented findings and concepts to the client, both midway through the process and at the final handover.

Challenges

  • No existing end users, as the community was still in the planning phase.
  • Interview candidates were potential buyers recruited through the client.
  • Uncertainty around needs and usage in a future context without real users.
  • No known existing solutions to draw inspiration from.

Results and reflections

Insights and early concepts from this phase helped shape direction and priorities for Ineo’s continued work. The solution has since been further developed into an app (opens in new tab) now used in nearly 70,000 homes.

The project highlighted the value of exploring broadly in early phases, as well as the importance of distinguishing between assumptions and actual user insights.
